Built in the 11th-century, the Castelo Sao Jorge fortification has retained its eleven towers showcasing architecture from the Moorish period. The highlight of the castle is all the viewpoints displaying amazing views of Lisbon from the millennium-old walls.
To get to the castle, you can take tram No.12 from Praça da Figueira towards São Jorge’s Castle. Once you’re there, there are family activities organized by the castle that you can join to learn about its history. You can also play a game with your toddler of finding all three African stone statues of lions that were brought back by King Alfonso V.
There is a restaurant and a castle terrace where you can rest in the shade while watching the peacocks.
Tickets: €10 for adults, FREE for children under 12.
