Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square in English) or Merdeka square is Kuala Lumpur’s most known monument. It is the historical place where the Malayan flag was raised for the very first time in 1957. The annual Merdeka Parade takes place in this square.
The flagpole standing in the middle of the square is the tallest in the world reaching 100 metres in height. There are also beautiful gardens, terraces, fountains and many events are held in the square.
