Governors Island is a massive parkland with plenty of activities, including Liggette Terrace with three play fountains, a hedge maze, kayaking, fishing, and much more.
There is an adventure playground known as the Yard that is a creative space for kids to play consisting of recycled material and families can plan a sleepover at the city’s tents with private terraces.
The island is accessible by daily ferry service from Lower Manhattan (the ferry leaves from Governors Island Ferry Waiting Room in the Battery Maritime Building, next door and to the left of the Staten Island Ferry Terminal at 10 South Street at the corner South and Whitehall Streets).
Ferry tickets cost $4 for adults and FREE for children under 12.
