Representing an example of a small, working-class Roman town, Ostia Antica is the perfect, less-touristy equivalent to Pompeii.
The ancient port is just 25km outside of the city of Rome. Also called the gate of Rome on the Mediterranean, the city provides a peaceful and refreshing escape from the city to the beach on a hot summer day.
There are fresh seafood restaurants, discos, markets, beaches with horseback riding, kitesurfing, and many other activities.
You can also join the Ostia excursion which is a group or private tour that has been developed to excite the kids as well as adults about Ancient Rome and how people lived 2000 years ago.
If you’d like to skip driving you can reach Ostia via the railway line Roma-Lido.
